The Youth Journalism Coalition increases access to high school journalism

Today, only one in four high schools in New York City has a student newspaper and if you are a low-income or a Black or Latino student, your chances of creating or reading journalism at your school are drastically lower. The Youth Journalism Coalition (YJC) is starting journalism programs at 30 high schools, piloting a new curriculum, and advocating to increase public investment in youth journalism.

The National Library is Israel’s public intellectual square and big cultural tent. It is preserving material from Israel’s diverse citizens for future generations as part of Israel’s unfolding story. Revson’s grants focus on Bedouin culture and Israeli-Palestinian intellectual life.

Addressing New York City’s lifeguard shortage

New York City’s lifeguard shortage is not only a recreational equity issue, but a serious public health and safety concern that will only increase with the effects of climate change. Since 2023, with seed funding from Revson, the YMCA of Greater New York has led the NYC Interorganizational Lifeguard Task Force to coordinate action to improve recruitment, certification, and the overall aquatics ecosystem.

Open Hearts Initiative builds community support for more housing and shelter

Over the past four years with Revson’s support, Open Hearts Initiative has organized housed neighbors to voice compassion and support for services and short- and long-term housing for unhoused New Yorkers. OHI has grown into eight neighborhood chapters with close to 900 active volunteers.

Israel’s Hebrew media lacks effective pathways to train journalists from outside the mainstream. As part of its work to strengthen investigative journalism in Israel, Shomrim, a nonprofit news organization, provides demanding on-the-job training to promising young reporters from Israel’s Arab and ultra-Orthodox sectors. Their work brings new and important stories to public attention.
