NEW YORK, NY — October 13, 2026 — The Charles H. Revson Foundation today announced the election of Dr. Rachael Bedard to its Board of Trustees.
A physician, writer, and public servant, Bedard has built a career at the intersection of medicine, public systems, and some of New York City’s most vulnerable communities. Her work combines frontline experience caring for patients with a deep engagement in questions of public health, institutional responsibility, trust, and the relationship between science and democracy.
Bedard is an internist, geriatrician, and palliative-care physician. She spent six years with New York City Correctional Health Services, where she founded its Geriatrics and Complex Care Service and worked on court advocacy, compassionate release, discharge planning, and the jail system’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. She also served on the New York City Board of Correction, the independent oversight body for the city’s jail system.
Bedard currently cares for homeless and housing-insecure New Yorkers at Woodhull Hospital’s Safety Net Clinic. Her work has given her an unusual vantage point on how large public institutions function—and how their policies and practices are experienced by the people who depend on them.
In addition to her medical and public service work, Bedard is a contributing opinion writer for The New York Times and a fellow at Type Media Center. Her writing has appeared in The New Yorker, New York Magazine, The New York Review of Books, and other publications. Across her clinical practice and writing, she explores questions at the intersection of medicine, public health, trust, science, and democracy. Bedard received her medical degree from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She completed her residency and chief residency in internal medicine at Cambridge Health Alliance, a teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School, followed by fellowship training in geriatrics and palliative medicine at Mount Sinai.
Bedard’s election reflects the Foundation’s commitment to assembling a Board with deep expertise across its programmatic priorities and a shared dedication to strengthening civic institutions and improving people’s lives. Her combination of frontline experience, civic commitment, and thoughtful engagement with how institutions serve the public will bring an important perspective to the Foundation’s work.
